Kohala Coast Hawaii, located on the northern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii is known as a tropical playground.  Kohala, the oldest of five volcano's in Hawaii is divided into two districts the North and South.  When you travel to Kohala for a holiday, no matter which district you visit, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the silk beaches and experience the culture and history of Kohala Hawaii around every corner.  If you are looking for a Kohala Coast destination guide, you are in the right place.  In this Kohala Coast travel guide, we hope to provide you with some information on the different activities and places to visit while on holiday in the Kohala Coast in Hawaii.

Kohala Coast Activities:

Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site - home of one of the largest heiau (temples) in Hawaii.  Located in Kawaihae in South Kohala, this historic landmark was constructed between 1790-91 under the leadership of Kamehameha I who dedicated it to the war god Kukailimoku to aide the efforts to unite the Hawaiian Islands.   Built from stone this temple is one of the last sacred structures built in the Hawaiian Islands before western influence.  While on holiday in Kohala Coast you will not want to miss this historic site.

Lapakahi State Historical Park - a 600 year old Hawaiian settlement along the shoreline of the Lapakahi Marine Life Conservation district, rich in natural resources and known for the fertile land and good fishing.  While visiting Kohala you will want to explore this traditional fishing community as you walk in the footsteps of the Hawaiians who lived in this ancient fishing community or try our hand at spear throwing or `ulu maika (disk rolling).
